Thousands of Minnesota kids need help getting ready for Kindergarten and you can make all the difference. Offer your time and talent as a tutor and be more for preschool students.
As a Preschool Tutor in Minneapolis Public Schools you’ll spend your days helping children ages 3-5 to talk, read, write, count sing and play in order to develop early literacy skills and get ready for Kindergarten. Embedded in a classroom, you’ll work closely with a teacher to enhance daily literacy and math activities and help students build both skills and confidence. You will also have the opportunity to grow your skills by working with your peers in other Minneapolis Public Schools classrooms in a professional learning community. With great training and onsite coaching, you’ll be ready to make an impact.
Students make the most progress when you are there, so our tutors serve during school hours and are needed for the whole school year. We are currently recruiting for the 2020-21 school year. Tutors have the option of beginning in August 2020, September 2020, October 2020 or January 2021.
This is an AmeriCorps member position with Minnesota Reading Corps. Although the earnings are modest, the rewards are great! You’ll join an amazing group of more than 1,000 Minnesota tutors, determined to help students be more.
Give your time as a tutor and you’ll receive a scalable perks package based on your time commitment of 35, 25, or 18 hours per week.

Great tutors come from all walks of life. Whether you are 18 or 85, the most important qualification is a desire to help children succeed. That said, you also need to meet the following minimum qualifications by the time you begin your service.
*Applicants who have received deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security are not eligible to serve as AmeriCorps members at this time.
